Kota Kinabalu: City Hall (DBKK) denied responsibility for a littered Tanjung Aru beach as shown in a video titled “DBKK Gets Corruption Award?” which went viral on social media recently.

“The area in the video recording is part of the beach area under the supervision of Tanjung Aru Eco Development (TAED) Sdn Bhd.

“While cleaning and maintaining orderliness of the Tanjung Aru Beach area is under the responsibility of DBKK, TAED is responsible for carrying out cleaning and environmental order work at Tanjung Aru Beach 2 and Tanjung Aru Beach 3,” it said in a statement.

DBKK also refuted accusations that a crony company had been appointed for beach cleaning works which has caused it to become unmanageable.

“DBKK has appointed a local company to assist in regulating the level of beach cleanliness in the Kota Kinabalu City area.

“The contract since August 1, 2022 is with satisfactory performance. The company is reported to always comply with the set cleaning schedule.

“The scope of the assignment area given to this company includes the Tanjung Aru Beach area starting from the Kinabalu Yacht Club building to Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort and Spa.

“Likas Bay, garbage traps near IMAGO Shopping Mall, Omega garbage traps, Kota Kinabalu City Mosque garbage traps, beaches at Likas River, the beach next to Anjung Senja and Kampung Kabel beach in Tanjung Aru.

“DBKK hopes that every statement posted by unwarranted individuals are fact checked.

“At the same time, DBKK also welcomes any suggestions and improvement proposals towards the clean and sustainable development of Kota Kinabalu City,” it added.
