FOLLOWING my earlier column stressing on the importance of Vasthu Sastra applications in an office or on business premises, many readers have responded with strong interest.
Most of them wanted to know how it could be applied effectively to improve erratic business, promote stability and enhance prosperity.
To begin with, a shop, restaurant or factory should be either square or rectangular and the length, breadth and height should be well proportioned.
Shops on roads facing east and north are best suited as they enhance positive energy flow, thus improving earnings.

If the shop is built on raised ground, ensure the number of steps leading to the shop adds up to an odd number; the staircase should preferably be constructed in the south, west, north-west or south-east of the shop.
The auspicious entrances are in the north, east or west as business conducted in such premises will prosper to greater heights.
The main door of the shop must open to the right of the entrance and there must not be any obstacles, like a tree, pole, pillar, wall or staircase at the main entrance. In fact, the door must be free of any obstruction to allow an easy flow of air.
The door should be made of good quality materials, better than any used to construct other doors in the shop; also, the main door should be higher than all other doors.
The boss should avoid sitting or working on a black, blue or grey carpet or chair. Anyone working on such inauspicious colours will have to slog for their money.
All other colours are allowed; royal red is especially recommended, though, because in colour therapy red reflects power and energy.
The boss must sit in the south-west quadrant and face north, east or north-east.
A showroom should be located in the south and west. No goods must be displayed in the north-east sector and stocks should be kept in the south-west, south or west.
The cash box or safe should be placed in the extreme south-west corner and it should face north or east. The cashier should sit facing east.
If the shop has a compound, ensure there is open space in the north and east compared to south and west.
Toilets should be in the north-west or south-east or south or west corners but never in the north-east or south-west corners.
For restaurants, the entrance is a key element in the prosperity of any eating outlet. Entrances facing east and north are recommended.
The kitchen should be located in the south-east, which is the fire quadrant; the north-west corner is another choice.
Provisions should be stored in the south-west or south or west.
The ideal place for the cashier is the south-west corner, north-east, or north. The cashier should sit facing only east or north when conducting business.

The wash basin should be located in the south, south-west, north-west, or west; the sink for washing utensils, however, should be placed in the south-east, north-west, or west corner of the restaurant.
The drainage outlet of the restaurant should face only south-east or north-west corners and the toilets should be built in the north-west or south-east. The commode should face only north or south and never east or west.
In the case of factories, it is auspicious to have roads on all four sides of a factory.
Avoid having the shadows of places of worship fall on the factory. More open space should be left in the east and north portions of the factory land.
The roof of the factory should always slope in eastern and northern directions.
The overhead water tank should be installed in the north-east corner of the factory premises. The weight and height of the tank has no impact on the factory’s workings.
Any staircases should be located in the south, west or north-west corners of the factory.
It is highly recommended that the main door of the factory be in the northern or the eastern corner.
The parking lot for vehicles should be built in the north, north-west, or south-east areas.
Toilets in the factory should be built either in the north-west, south-east or south.
The main machinery or heavy plant should be located in the south-west corner of the factory. The other choices are in the south and west.
Heavy machines must never be installed in the north-east corner. That is where the boss’s main office should be.
Boilers, generators, ovens and transformers should be located in the south-east corner.

Weighing machines should be kept in the north-west and north and storage of raw materials should be located in the south-west.
Finished goods, packing and forwarding operations should be conducted in the north-west to ensure no interruption.
The go-down, stockroom or storeroom should be in the south-west, south or west. Hazardous chemicals should be stored in the south-east corner. Any beams running across the roof over the office or work area should be covered with a false ceiling.
The accounts officer should sit in the north and face east or north.
The conference or meeting room should be located in the north-west corner where top management should sit facing east.
