KOTA KINABALU: Tourism in Inanam is set to receive another boost with the publication of its travel guide brochure.

Mayor Datuk Nordin Siman said Inanam, Sepanggar and the surrounding areas have the potential to be developed as community-based tourism centres as these sites are blessed with exciting natural beauties.

“Furthermore, these areas are located within the Crocker Range Biosphere Reserve,” he said when launching the Inanam Travel Guide during the Sepanggar Fiesta in Inanam, near here, Saturday.

“While it is experiencing rapid development, the city is lucky as it is still rich with Unesco-certified biodiversity.”

Apart from that, he said, the plus point for these sites is their strategic location, which is within the city – the gateway to the State and only 14km from Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA).

“Looking at this development, City Hall as the local authority has played an important and active role in the efforts to develop tourism in the State by enhancing tourism centres in the surrounding villages, apart from publishing a local travel guide.

“I hope other local authorities will also emulate such efforts which are in line with the Visit Malaysia 2020 campaign,” he said.

He added that the publication of local travel guides is important as it can promote interesting spots to be visited by the tourists.

“With clear mapping, it can help tourists to reach their destinations.

“It also helps tourists to obtain information on the facilities and activities to be done in these sites.”

Among the tourism spots in Inanam are the Ulu Kionsom Waterfall, Mari-Mari Cultural Village, local traditional stores and hotels.

Also present was City Hall Director-General Noorliza Awang Alip.
