GENEVA: First Porsche, now Piech: The second big family name from Germany's car dynasty is now also set to be emblazoned on the bonnet of an electric sports car in the near future.

The new Piech company, taking its name from the influential Porsche/Piech family, took to the Geneva Motor Show to show off a fully electric Piech Mark Zero, which they plan to offer to drivers within the next three years.

Toni Piech, son of long-time VW boss Ferdinand Piech, was at the show to present the new badge, co-founded by him and taking his family name.

While the whole world is talking about automated driving, Piech said that their aim with the Mark Zero is to build a classic, purist sports car that focuses on the driver's needs.

And if your needs are a 500-kilometre electric-only range, then the Mark Zero might be for you - if you can afford the luxury premium of between €150,000 and €170,000 (up to RM785,000) in Europe.

The highlight of the Mark Zero is undoubtedly its battery, which features an innovative charging technology that lets you charge the car to 80% in less than five minutes.

Just like original designer Ferry Porsche, who developed the first sports car bearing his name, Piech has been telling media he decided to build his own car when he couldn't find any model that matched his demands. The new manufacturer is based in Zurich. - TheStar/Carsifu.my
