KUALA LUMPUR: Honda Malaysia remains the envy of its peers as it continues to retain pole position in the non-national segment for the fourth year in a row.

It also maintained its No.2 position in overall total industry volume for three consecutive years.

All locally assembled models were segment leaders and the City was the highest sales unit contributor at 32%. The Civic and CR-V were also strong players in their respective segments, recording 16% and 13% sales unit contribution

It sold 102,282 units in 2018, boosted by the three-month GST-free period. With GST being replaced by SST and a tougher operating environment this year, the company is setting its 2019 sales target at 95,000 units.

Honda Malaysia has been notable for being the first Japanese car maker to introduce a turbocharged model in the mass market C-segment in 2016. The 10th-generation Civic has sold more than 41,000 units since its official launch three years ago, with the turbocharged variant accounted for 58% of this sales figure.

For 2019, Honda Malaysia would be focusing on improving customer satisfaction, introducing more new and upgraded models as well as strengthening its dealership network, said its managing director/CEO Toichi Ishiyama at the Honda media gathering on Tuesday.

The company kicked off 2019 with the launch of the HR-V 1.8L RS and the first ever hybrid model in the compact SUV segment, the HR-V 1.5L Sport Hybrid i-DCD in January. The following month, it rolled out the limited edition Jazz Mugen and BR-V Special Edition, where only 300 units of each model are available. -Thestar/Carsifu.my
