Kuala Lumpur: Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (pic) is 'worried' over the proposals in the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP), questioning how the income from the Goods and Services Tax (GST) would be spent. She said there were only five years left before 2020 and she was worried whether the current approach by the Government would be effective in reaching the target.

"In the 10th Malaysia Plan, it was mentioned that the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) would benefit the people and bring impact value but for whom? Look at how it is now.

"How will the income from GST be spent? Now, we want to see where the GST goes. "We will wait and see," Dr Wan Azizah, who is Permatang Pauh MP, told reporters at the Parliament building. When tabling the 11MP, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the Government would ensure that the GST collected would be channelled back to benefit the people.

Dr Wan Azizah said she was also concerned about the closing of the income gap not just between the different races but within the same race, as well as between the rich and the poor.

"Pakatan Rakyat will study the proposals made in the 11MP and offer constructive suggestions during the debate on it later," she said, adding that the Opposition wanted good governance.

She said anything can be promised but it must go along with proper execution and delivery based on the principles of inclusiveness, transparency and free of corruption, leakages and wastages.

"This is the final leap to 2020 and it needs a final sprint. Malaysia should expand its democracy and not narrow it so that everybody can reach the finish line that is the Vision 2020," she said. Dr Wan Azizah said the Opposition also supported the proposal for the Government to come up with a Parliamentary fiscal committee to ensure the monitoring and implementation of the 11MP.
