Understand govt programmes: DG
Kota Kinabalu: Society must understand that the government programmes under the 11th Malaysia Plan (RMK11) were focused on the welfare of the people, said Information Department Director-General Datuk Ibrahim Abdul Rahman.He said society should avoid spreading libel such as through sharing of invalid information online as society plays a big role in contributing towards the success of RMK11 and achieving a developed nation status by 2020.

"Don't spread defamation, it is a major sin to ourselves, don't share untruths which can affect communal relations and unity, our spirit is that of a developed nation."

Ibrahim said in his speech when launching a state level 1Malaysia Nationhood Narration competition, Sunday.

In the meantime, he said, it was better for society particularly the youths to be involved in beneficial activities such the competition as it gave the opportunity for the general community to express their thoughts and opinions concerning the historical events as well as iconic figures that have contributed to the success and prosperity of the country.

He also said the competition would also help increase the awareness and understanding of the community towards the struggle and patriotism of the country through creativity and innovation of the scripts.

He further added that history must be cultured to the younger generation as to ensure their patriotism to the country would not be worn away of which efforts from all parties were crucial to counter such situation from happening.

"Therefore, the co-operations by all factions are needed to make sure our young children would not only understand the chronology of the formation of the country but more importantly that they may appreciate it."

A total of six groups joined the competition which saw the group Lentera Bayu nabbing the first prize of RM3,000 while first runner up was won by Tinta Merdeka who won a cash prize of RM2,000 and third place went to Permata Pantai.

The other four groups received consolation cash prize of RM1,000 and trophy.

Lentera Bayu would represent the State at the national level competition in Perak in August.
