70 chartered flights due from China November

Kota Kinabalu: Several memoranda of understanding signed between tour agents in China last week are expected to bring 70 direct chartered flights from China starting November. The MoUs, signed on May 20 between Sabah and Chinese tour agents, are expected to ferry tourists from Wuhan, Changsa, Chengdu and Nanjing. AirAsia is currently in discussion with the Chinese authorities to make the flights possible. ADVERTISEMENT The signing ceremony was witnessed by State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun and Assistant Minister Datuk Pang Yuk Ming and Mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir. In promoting the State, Masidi said Sabah's tourism appeal is due to its ancient rainforest, beautiful islands, beaches, world-class conservation, wildlife sanctuaries and cultural heritage. "Sabah is an incredibly beautiful and diverse destination," he said. At present there are 51 direct flights from China and Hong Kong to Kota Kinabalu; AirAsia has 35, Dragon Air has seven and Malaysia Airlines has nine. The first three months of 2015, a total of 17 chartered flights have been recorded with a total of 2,646 visitors; three flights each from Chengdu, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Shenzen and Hongkong and two flights from Changsa.

The four provincial capital cities of Wuhan, Changsa, Chengdu and Nanjing have a total population of more 38.8 million.
