Tuaran: The United Sabah Dusun Association (Usda) will soon have its own building in Tuaran following the approval of its application for a piece of land by the State Government. Announcing the good news, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said the move showed that the State Government is always supportive of any efforts by ethnic associations in the State on preserving their culture. He said this when officiating at the State-level Adau Kokotuan Usda here, Sunday.

Also present were State Speaker Datuk Seri Salleh Said, Usda President Datuk Ewon Ebin and Tamparuli Assemblyman Datuk Wilfred Bumburing.

"I am proud of Usda's continuous efforts and initiatives in organising the event especially with the collaboration of eight other associations in making sure the event will be a success.

"I believe the festival is able to strengthen the spirit of unity and harmony among ourselves in line with the vision of 1Malaysia, which had always been part of our culture in Sabah," he said.

He urged Usda to continue its cultural programme and to expand it further for the sake of peace and unity in the State.

In his speech, Ewon stressed that the association will continue to strive forward for the sake of its members so that they could stand tall together with people from other ethnicity in the State especially in the field of education, economy, language and others.

"As the president of this association, I would like to invite other Dusun organisations to help, restore and transform ourselves towards a progressive and proactive Dusun community, along with other races such as the Chinese, the Bajaus and other registered organisations for the sake of Sabah," he said.

He also lauded the eight other associations namely Tobilung, Tatana, Sungau, Mangka'ak, Kimaragang, Tindal and Damit Family Association for their cooperation in organising the event.

This year, he said, the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (Mosti) of which he is Minister held an exhibition during the event and Ewon promised that the Ministry will continue to take part in such events as he viewed the event as an opportunity for the ministry to share something that would benefit the people.

Ewon also announced that this year, the Tobilung organisation will join Usda to take part in a cultural competition to be held in Bucharest, Romania.

"Last year, Tobilung was placed seventh out of 34 countries that participated in the competition and I would like to congratulate our cultural ambassadors led by Muji Ampau," he said.

The one-day event saw Tanjung Aru's Fredda Evanna Jemie being crowned Runduk Ngadau Usda 2015 while Ledesma Steven of Kuala Lumpur and Lydia Pius of Api-Api took the second and third spots respectively.

Fourth to seventh place were Hemy Menjadi (Labuk), Erlasttini Evenie Ernie (Karanaan), Melonie Lozius (Tamparuli) and Wenddy Kukundu Hiang (Pantai Manis). Ledesma Steven was also voted Miss Favourite while Chanteek Borneo Gallery picked Dabra Sia of Tempasuk as their ambassador.
