Kota Kinabalu: Youth and Sports Minister, Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan reminded the State lawn bowlers who will represent Sabah in the next Sukma Games to believe in themselves and reiterate the phrase 'Go For Gold' in their mind."Sabah is in the progress in putting a lot of focus and effort to achieve the number of gold medals targeted for next year's Sukma.

"Our lawn bowl squads have finally won a gold medal in the last Sukma Games, so now we are striving hard to double the number of gold medals in 2016.

"Therefore, I want to remind all the bowlers to believe in themselves and sketch the phrase 'Go For Gold' in their mind and soul," he said during officiating the Lawn Bowling Kinabalu Borneo Cup 2015 at Likas Sports Complex on Monday.

A total of 64 teams from Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, Philippines, Hong Kong and Australia are vying for the championship starting from May 25 until 28 at the lawn bowl field here.

Sabah sent 14 teams to compete in the championship that for the first time combines two international events, namely Kinabalu Cup and Borneo Cup organised by the Sabah Lawn Bowls Association (SLBA).

Hong Kong is expected to provide stiff competitions to other teams by sending their national squad bowlers to compete in the championship for both categories, Super Challenge and Premier Challenge.

A total of 16 groups were formed consisting of four teams each that will compete to win first and second place in their respective groups to advance to the next round.

Tawfiq on the other hand advised the five State Sukma teams participating in the championship to take the opportunity to learn from other experienced teams competing.

"I hope that the Sabah teams will take every opportunity to observe and learn from the experienced international bowlers throughout this championship," he said.

Super Challenge winner will receive a cash prize of RM7,000 plus trophy while second and third place will receive RM3,000 and RM1,500 plus trophy respectively.

Meanwhile in the Premier Challenge, the champion will bring home cash prize of RM1,000 with a medal while second and third place will receive RM750 and RM500 along medal respectively.
