Don traditional attire whole month: Minister
Ranau: Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Datuk Siringan Gubat suggested that traditional attire be worn by the community during the month-long Kaamatan for functions to inculate love and appreciation for own traditional heritage, especially among the young."This can be simply achieved through our respective traditional costume which we wear during this celebration, and also in our conversation, using our respective mother tongue, throughout this month," he said.

Siringan, who is also Paginatan Assemblyman, was speaking after he officiated at the two-in-one opening of Kampung Sedul 2 mini hall and the village-level Kaamatan Festival celebration here Saturday.

Meanwhile, Petronas has launched a short web film featuring the Kaamatan on a video sharing website Youtube.

Titled "Tinungkusan Dahai" which means "Our Culture", the three-minute web film tells the story of Steffy Samuel, a Rungus woman who wishes to pass down her rich culture and "manek" (beads) stringing skills to her daughter in celebration of Kaamatan.

Each tribe has own story about Kaamatan, and to the Rungus the story comes from the beautiful and intricate design of a "Pinakol", the popular loose band of beads worn crossed over the chest and back.

It is an uplifting story that all Malaysians should be proud of and in support the month-long celebration for the Kadazan, Dusun and Murut in Sabah.

Petronas Head of Brand Management, Rizan Ismail said Petronas has been continuously producing festive campaigns about the values of unity, respect and gratitude for the past two decades.

For this year's Kaamatan, Rizan said, Petronas focused on the shared values and traditions of the people in Sabah.

"We hope to express our message of how unique Malaysia is with our melting pot of cultures and traditions and despite this, we share many common values including our togetherness amongst family and friends.

"This is something that really defines us as Malaysians and is something which we have tried to highlight in our web film," he said in his speech on the launching of the web film.

Viewers may log on to the official brand channel at www.petronasofficial.com to view the Kaamatan web film.

A sixty-second television commercial excerpt of the web film will also be aired from June 9.

Among present was Head of Sabah and Labuan Regional Office Julita Ontol.
