Kota Kinabalu: Keningau, the 2013 cup holder was knocked out of the 2015 Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman Cup Inter-District Football Tournament after failing to qualify for quarterfinals. The former champion was eliminated in the qualifying group stage following a 1-1 draw against Nabawan while main rivals Tenom avoided defeat in the other Group VIII fixtures over the weekend.

Tenom trounced Tambunan 6-0 to claim the last eight berth, which is provided to only the respective group winners.

Sandakan, Ranau and Beaufort also made it into the two-legged quarterfinals after completing their group fixtures over the weekend.

Sandakan defeated Beluran 2-0 to clinch top placing in Group II while Ranau advanced from Group III after winning 2-0 against Telupid in the ultimate group match. In Group VII, Beaufort justified their favorite tag to make it into the next round after a 3-1 win over Sipitang ensured they ended the qualifying rounds as table toppers.

The four group winners now join defending champions Tawau from Group I, last year's runner-up Kota Belud (Group V) and Kota Marudu (Group IV) in the last eight after having booked their place much earlier.

The one remaining berth will be decided on May 28 where Papar and Putatan will take on each other the quarterfinal spot from Group VI. Papar will head into the clash as the overwhelming favorite as they top the group on nine points with a healthy goal difference.

Putatan, who are second on six points, must win by a massive 10 goals if they were to feature in the knock-out stage. The home-and-away format is used in the qualifying group stages as well as in the quarterfinals where the first and second leg will take place on August 8 and August 15 respectively.

Going into its third edition, the CM Cup champions will win RM25,000 while the runners-up RM12,500 with the third and fourth placed teams receiving RM4,500 and RM3,500 respectively.
