Talented young orchestra for Sunset Music Fest
Kota Kinabalu: Kudat focused tourism drive through spectacular landscape-centric beauty of the Tip of Borneo and a platform to expose good and promising local musical talents remains the purpose of the 9th Sunset Music Fest, from June 5-6.It will be held at Tanjung Simpang Mengayau from 5.30 pm-8.30 pm on both days.

Exploring 25km away Kudat town – first capital of North Borneo 1881, a traditional Rungus longhouse stay experience at Kampung Bavangazo, a honey bee farm at Kg Gombizau or traditional gong-making at Kg Sumangkap are distinctly possible real additional tourism experiences.

Motive wise Music Fest proper, seeing the picturesque open land-sea landscape ambience and taking photographs is happy enough for some.

Or, first time stepping foot on the northern most apex rocky headland or promontory of a 743,330 sq km (247,000 sq miles) world's third island, makes waves for others.

In this WhatsApp era, plenty of instant, real-time pix to friends and relatives far and wide are expected!

Organisers can always bet on a big turnout of landscape buffs and eager adventure travellers who will go anyway at the slightest excuse.

The bonus is the music and entertainment from emerging and veteran providers whom Culture, Tourism and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun did his best to introduce at a press conference Tuesday morning.

Flexible Crew – an award winning dance group; Norbert Andilah – the booming lead vocalist at Sabah Fest Cultural Extravaganza Agop; Francis Ladong, The Deep Buskers, who defeated all at the recent Battle of Bands, Ranau; La Cantabile –Classical Voices, Apprillissa Sue Ann, will be all there.

Like orchestra, something near the level of a philharmonic class orchestra?

Yes, we don't know exactly what surprises a 40-strong Permata Seni Muzik orchestra will be capable of generating.

But they will certainly be the orchestra on tour to Sabah at that time, who will make a special northward swing on May 6 to the Tip of Borneo to let trippers find out what a specially selected group of young Malaysian musical genius aged 8-14 can do.

Sitti Damsal, General Manager of Sri Pelancongan Sabah Sdn Bhd which brings the event, said Permata Seni Muzik is a group dedicated to harnessing the most gifted Malaysian musical talents aged 8-14, under the purview of Istana Budaya.

"Five Sabahans are among the Permata orchestra complete with strings and other well loved classical instrumentals," Sitti noted.

They are Xunyi Cheong (viola), Yap Qin (violin) , Benjamin Chang (violin), Yap Yi (cello) and Lauren Lok (violin), according to Chloe Lee.

Handcraft, food and drink stalls will be active two full days.

RM50 one night but RM80 two nights are the ticket charges and also only concert ticket holders will be given passage to the tip of the headland 3pm-10pm on both days, organisers said.

Return transportation at RM30 per person from and back to Sabah Tourism Board Office, Gaya Street, departing 2pm KK are available.

However, June 3 (Tuesday) is the closing date for transport reservations, organisers added.
