Six more heart patients for treatment in S Korea

Kota Kinabalu: Six patients with serious heart complications can look forward to a healthier life ahead, thanks to Society for the Sabah Heart Fund's (SOS Heart Fund) charity project.According to the SOS Heart Fund President Datuk Christine Vanhouten, the first batch of patients for this year left for South Korea on May 22, thanks to the partnership with a South Korea-based organisation, called the International Food for the Hungry.To date, the partnership has benefited 120 patients since it was established in 2007.ADVERTISEMENT The six patients are two-year-old Nur Assyifa Umayrah Suardi from Sandakan, three-year-olds Muhammad Husaini Hasim, Fashah Danielah Sumizan and Sumizan Blondie from Tawau, and Muhammad Azhar Hizan (Lahad Datu); Kamirul Abdullah, four-year-old from Beaufort; and Mazlan Abdul Usri, 11, from Lahad Datu. They will be in Korea for about three weeks to undergo treatment."The SOS Heart Fund, with the assistance of the Likas Children and Women Hospital, would identify the needy children and recommend them to the Medical Representatives of the Bucheon Sejong Hospital, Seoul, South Korea."As a follow-up, representatives from the International Food for the Hungry and the Bucheon Sejong Hospital would come here to assess the patients before they are accepted and sent to Korea for surgeries."Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

Vanhouten added that since its inception in 1981, the SOS Heart Fund has sent 609 patients for heart treatment or surgeries, where apart from Korea, they have also flown the patients to seek treatment in Kuala Lumpur and Penang.ADVERTISEMENT "This year alone, we have sent five patients to Kuala Lumpur," she said, adding that a similar programme would be held soon.
