11 traditional sports to be contested

Kota Kinabalu: A total of 11 traditional sports will be contested in conjunction with the State-level Harvest Festival celebration this year.Chairman of the Sabah Sports Board (LSNS) cum traditional sports patron, Datuk Louis Rampas said the competition will be held on May 30 and 31 at the Hongkod Koisaan, Penampang.

He said among the contest are Mipulos (arm wrestling), Rampanau (walking on giant slippers), Terompak Gergasi (Sipatu Tompulanggoi), Monopuk (blow pipe) Momolistik (slingshot), Mamagandal (lifting rice), Tumutu (mashing rice), Mangapui, Migazat Dukug (tug of war), Manandus (Membujak) and Monungkava Kalabau ((riding on buffaloes).

"The public is invited to participate in these contests. Participation is free and open to males and females aged 18 years and above," he said at a press conference here.

The 2015 Traditional Sports Ceremony will be officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman on May 30 at 1.30 pm and the closing of the celebratrion will be officiated by Head of State Tun Haji Juhar Mahiruddin on May 31.
