Raising rural folk's ICT usage a priority in 11MP

Putra Jaya: Raising the information communication technology (ICT) usage capability of the rural community will be the Rural and Regional Development Ministry's area of focus under the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP).Its Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said among the things that needed to be overcome during the 11MP was the low broadband penetration in some areas, which posed as an obstacle to IC usage among some rural folk.He said mastering ICT would help rural residents promote their products widely towards increasing their income.ADVERTISEMENT "The rural community very much needs support to market their products and services," he told reporters after presenting awards for excellent service to 74 staff of his ministry, here, Thursday.Mohd Shafie said the ministry would also draw up new programmes to improve service delivery to the people, besides boosting the existing facilities such as the Urban Transformation Centres (UTCs) and Rural Transformation Centres (RTCs)."Among the 11MP targets is raising rural folk's income to between RM2,000 and RM5,000 through economic participation and this can only be achieved through a more effective service delivery system," he said.On the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) issue, Mohd Shafie said it should be thoroughly and clearly explained to the people.ADVERTISEMENT He said when he raised the 1MDB issue, it was because he felt that it had not been properly explained to the people.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
