Save Our Ocean: JCI to hold coral planting

Kota Kinabalu: JCI Luyang will be organising their fourth coral planting activity soon and participation is open to the public.Its chapter President, Seth Quek, said the activity is part of their Coral Restoration Program, a key programme under Save Our Ocean. "JCI Luyang's signature project – Save Our Ocean – is a series of programme to create awareness to the public on the importance of preserving the state of our ocean and ways of returning life into the ocean." He said this during a visit to Gaya Island Resort Marine Centre (GIRMC) located within YTL Hotels' Gaya Island Resort at Malahom Bay, Pulau Gaya, as part of their efforts to advocate marine conservation. Also involved were the reigning queen of Miss Scuba Sabah Jane Ho, together with last year's top three winners. Their visit included a tour at the centre by Resident Marine Biologist Scott Mayback who also gave a talk on the centre's three conservation pillars, which are Turtle Rescue, Coral Reef Restoration and Conservation through Education. ADVERTISEMENT The centre, which was launched in 2013, is the first dedicated turtle rescue and rehabilitation centre in Malaysia and complete with a turtle rescue hotline that can be reached at 013-899 9509."We are all in this together. We should appreciate the efforts taken to save and protect Sabah's diverse marine life. We cannot take for granted that our sea will always stay beautiful when we hear of so many marine-related problems and do nothing," said Jane.
