AFCS help for Swepa's Barefoot Solar Project
Kota Kinabalu: The presence and experience of Asian Forestry Company Sabah (AFCS) in implementing community projects in Kota Marudu and Pitas is an asset to the Sabah Women Entrepreneurs & Professionals Association's (Swepa) Barefoot Solar Project in Kota Marudu.Over the years, AFCS has carried out over 70 community projects, collaborating with various partners.

AFCS spokeswoman Yap Li Ling said the company's background allowed it to provide the necessary support to Swepa in terms of liasing with the various villages to identify the appropriate village for the project.

"Swepa wanted a village that has 100 homes without electricity supply. Kg Sonsogon Magandai became the choice as it fits the criteria for selection," she said.

Subsequently, AFCS assisted with access and logistics to support the various challenging stages of the project implementation.

"It was both rewarding and exciting for the team to work with such a capable and committed Swepa organising committee which has demonstrated excellent leadership and organisational skills," Yap said of the company's partnership with Swepa. She now sits on the committee as a project coordinator.

Meanwhile, the Director of Bomba Sabah, Nordin Pauzi said the department was proud to be part of the noble effort to light up the 100 households at Kg Sonsogon Magandai in the interior of Sabah.

"It was also a great opportunity to enhance the level of training for our team," he said of the task for a Bomba helicopter to airlift 4,000 metric tonnes of solar equipment from Tandek to the village, recently.

Bomba Sabah is now the 12th partner of Swepa in the implementation of its Barefoot Solar Project in Kota Marudu.
