Kuala Lumpur: Singapore SEA Games triple gold medallist in archery, Fatin Nurfatehah Mat Salleh feels her performance at the World University Games (Universiade) would be as important as her participation in the Olympics. The Universiade will be a platform that will be on par with the Olympics for archery, especially the Compound event, since Compound events are not included in the Olympics programme.

Therefore, the Universiade in Gwangju, South Korea next month will be the Olympics for archers like us who compete in Compound events, she said.

In Gwangju, Fatin is drawn to face World number one in (Compound), Sarah Lopez from Colombia.

"I have been a National archer for six years and hope to draw on my experience in Gwangju. Competition will be stiff in (Gwangju) for sure but it will be a 50-50 encounter," the Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) student told Bernama.

Fatin who will be competing in her second Universiade had in May celebrated a historic victory with her teammates after the women's team won a gold medal in the Compound trio's event at the Stage One 2015 Archery World Cup in Shanghai, China.

She also hopes to improve on her previous Universiade result of having lost in the quarterfinals in Shenzen, China four years ago.– Bernama
