Abused girl: Dad and stepmum detained

Kota Baru: Kelantan police have arrested the father and stepmother of a five-year-old girl who was allegedly abused by the couple.Kelantan Police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim said the couple, aged 39 and 25, respectively, was arrested in front of a restaurant here. "The couple will be remanded for four days from today for further investigation," he said when contacted.

The girl, allegedly abused by the duo in Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas, was found to have 10 broken bones, in the ribs, backbone and right shoulder, and a dislocated hip. Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital director Datuk Dr Ghazali Hasni Md Hassan was reported as having said that the girl was also suffering from pneumonia, severe trauma and bruises on the chest, abdomen and back. The girl is now under treatment at the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital and has been placed under the care of the Social Welfare Department.
