Sandakan: The imposition of an entrance fee to the Tropical Forest Park in Tshun Ngen Park in Mile 5 beginning July 1 has been postponed indefinitely. The postponement proposal raised by the Chairman of Landscape, Mohd Noor Bacho following a request by the Elopura Community Development Leader, Chan Tzun Hei was agreed to unanimously during the Municipal Council meeting on Monday.

Chan who was given special permission to participate in the debate by the Deputy President, Haji Mohd Hamsan Awang Supain who chaired the meeting said the government had been encouraging the people to go for recreational activities, hence it should not charge the people a fee to do so.

At the same time, he said the park management should not charge the fee and burden the people during this time of sluggish economy.

The government through the Forestry Department need not collect entrance fees because all this while it had been free-of-charge to the public since the park started operations, said Chan.

It was only apt that the recreational park be opened for free in order to give the people, particularly here the benefit of a place to hold recreational activities.

However, Chan had no objection if the fee were to be imposed on foreign tourists needing the service of guides when visiting the park.
