Kota Kinabalu: The State Government has been urged not to delay on setting up a geological centre that could help warn as well as educate the people on what to do when an earthquake strikes."The recent earthquake in Ranau scared many people and damaged many structures because there was no prior no warning," said Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) President Datuk Seri Dr T.C. Goh.This was among eight resolutions approved at its annual meeting, Sunday.ADVERTISEMENT The other resolutions called for expediting the Pan Borneo Highway, recognising the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) in Chinese independent schools, protecting the Federal Constitution from implementing the Hudud law, re-evaluating the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) and its functions, having a transparent and fair construction tender with priority to Sabah construction companies, exemption for education and talent-training organisation from the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and to push for more blood donation drives in the State. On security issues in the East Coast, it said:"The piracy attacks and kidnappings had affected the tourism and safety of the people as well as affecting the economy of Sabah. We urge the government to acquire an attack helicopter to patrol the area for better security."FCAS also called for the Federal and State governments to have a more transparent and fair process when selecting construction tenders for the State.ADVERTISEMENT They called for open tender rather than through negation with priority consideration to construction companies in Sabah."Usually construction projects are given to outsiders and local contractors only receive the sub-projects.
