Sabah to boost revenue also

Sandakan: The State Government welcomed the call to take measures to boost revenue collection and reduce income arrears.Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said at present Sabah was doing the exact thing and was always looking for ways, including new methods to increase the State's coffers.

Musa who is also State Finance Minister said this when asked about the call by the Prime Minister for State Governments to boost revenue according to methods and various measures.

In the same breath, the Prime Minister in his speech at the nation's capital also proposed the setting up of a State Revenue Committee.

On the postponement of the Umno party election by 18 months, Musa when met after presenting Ramadan contributions to 987 recipients at Kampung Pulau Nunuyan here Tuesday said Sabah Umno supported the decision. It would provide room for the party leaders and members to unite, said Musa who is also Umno Sabah chief.

On the Ramadan programme, he said it served as the platform for the leaders to meet with the local community of the area concerned. According to him, it was also an annual affair for Umno Libaran to go down the ground and meet with the people to foster ties.

"This is important because we do not go to the ground only during elections but all the time regardless if it is the election season or not," he said.
