Johor: Although the Johor government had declared Friday and Saturday as the weekend since last year, a survey recently revealed that the majority of respondents in a survey still prefer their off days to be on Saturday and Sunday. The survey conducted by the Johor Bahru Federation of Chinese Associations between April and May showed that 95.8pc of respondents (32,683) want the weekend to be reverted to Saturday and Sunday, with only 4.1pc (1,422) opting for status quo. Its president Datuk Seri Tey Kim Chai said the survey covered Johor Baru and Mersing, with a total of 34,105 survey forms submitted to the secretary of the association.

"The respondents are from both the private and public sector," Tey said.

Some respondents had said that under the current system, it is difficult to have a family day because their children need to go to school on Sunday.

He said some schools also face problems arranging family-oriented activities.

The survey findings will be submitted to the secretary of the Johor sultan and Johor chief minister, Tey said.

Earlier in March, the Sultan of Johor had voiced his intention to get his people's opinion on the off days and problems arising from it.
