Kota Kinabalu: After a successful first championship last year, UG Basketball Club (UGBC) will be hosting the 2nd UG Inter-Church Basketball Championship 2015 starting on July 1 until 12 held at the City Community Hall.The annually organised tournament is co-sponsored by TMS Real Estate Agent, where a total of 10 churches have confirmed their participation, including defending champions Methodist Shern Ern. There are two first timers, namely Petros Activity Centre located in Cyber City and Roman Catholic Church of Kota Kinabalu. ADVERTISEMENT Another special feature for this year's championship is that there will be two girls' teams competing in a full-length exhibition match. Apart from that, UGBC took another step further by adding several special programmes into the line-up, including the NBA-influenced "3-point shootout competition" sponsored by KK Soul Of Soles and a few cheerleading teams during half-times.The championship is set to carry the same purpose of the competition of last year, which is to foster good relationship internally and externally among churches in the city area. UGBC hopes to cultivate a positive value and spirit through the sport of basketball, hence bringing transformation to the local basketball culture.UGBC thanked the 10 participating churches for their supports, PBA for supplying official referees, and other various sponsors namely Teck Guan Sdn Bhd, See Hua Daily, Liquid Moly Malaysia, KK Soul of Soles and Excelon Printing for supporting the event.ADVERTISEMENT Meanwhile, in the midst of preparations, six UGBC committee members, namely Iverson Wong, Felix Tan, Kelvin Chai, Allan Seow, Robert Chong and Danny Chin paid a courtesy visit to the Mayor of Kota Kinabalu, Datuk Abidin Madingkir to inform and invite him to the event's opening ceremony on July 5 and will be held at the City Community Hall.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

During the visit, Abidin and UGBC members also briefly discussed their concerns on the tragic earthquakes that happened in Ranau earlier in June, and how they are able to help the victims.

Abidin mentioned that DBKK has opened counters to collect drinking water for residents of Ranau while UGBC President, Iverson Wong announced that there will be a booth for collecting donation and it is organised by SIB churches which then aided to the victims.
