Enough rice for Raya: Bernas

Sandakan: Sabah has sufficient rice supplies for the forthcoming Raya season said Padi and Beras Nasional (Bernas) Chairman Sabah, Jasnih Daya. He said with such assurance, the people in the State do not have to worry about inadequate supply of rice.

"With the cooperation of various parties, namely Bernas and its subsidiaries namely Beras Corporation Sdn Bhd, Sazarice Sdn Bhd and Sabarice Sdn Bhd, we will ensure adequate supply at all times," he said.

Jasnih was speaking at a breaking of fast event with the Chief Minister organised by Beras Corporation Sdn Bhd at the Raya Seri Aman mosque, here on Sunday.

The function was officiated by Libaran MP, Datuk Juslie Ajirol, who represented the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Musa Aman.

At the event, a total of 920 recipients consisting of the poor, single mothers, the disabled and orphans received Ramadan contributions from Musa that were delivered by Juslie.

Another 84 asnaf zakat received tithe while five mosque namely Kg Sg Manila mosque, Kenangan Manis mosque, Kg Jawa 2 mosque, Kg Java 1 mosque and Peringkat 3 mosque received zakat worth RM5,000 and another 25 people received Ramadan contribution from Sandakan Area Farmers' Organisation.

The Al-Aman Orphanage, Beaufort, Ar-Raudhoh Orphanage, Tawau, Putera Harapan Home, Ranau, Home, Tuaran and Darul Bakti Orphanage, Kota Belud, each received a donation of RM10,000 by Bernas.

"Bernas is also grateful that once again, this year, Bernas can continue to carry out the contribution to the State in need, especially to the orphans in the State."

He said the contributions was also part of Bernas' corporate social responsibility programme as the leading the rice business in the country.

"All of this we cannot have done if it did not get the support of the State government under the leadership of the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman," he said.

Meanwhile, in a speech delivered by Juslie, Musa said, during the month of Ramadan, not only non-government leaders go to the ground, but many government departments and agencies as well as non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the corporate sector were also concerned and giving aid to the needy.

"Corporate social responsibility is a good effort, especially in the month of Ramadan where it is also able to strengthen the relationships and unity among ourselves," he said adding that he also hoped that such efforts will be continued in the future.

In the meantime, he said, people also need to provide support and cooperation to the programme and any government agencies for the good and benefit of the people.
