Putra Jaya: The Festive Season Price Control Scheme in conjunction with Aidilfitri this year will begin Tuesday (today) and remain in force until July 23, to monitoring the prices of 21 items listed by the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry. Its Minister Datuk Seri Hasan Malek said the Consumer Squad and the People's Volunteer Corps (Rela) will also help monitor these items.

"We are also asking the cooperation of the people to report any unreasonable increase in prices to the ministry," he said after launching the 2015 Putrajaya Mega Raya Expo at Dataran Putrajaya organised jointly by the Malaysian Bumiputera Business Club and the Putrajaya Corporation, here Monday.

Hasan said stern action would be taken against traders who sold these items at more than the set ceiling prices.

"We will not compromise because the supply in the market is sufficient, so there is no excuse for traders to increase prices. In my opinion, if there is an increase in the price of goods, traders must be blamed because prices have been set during discussions held with the parties concerned, for instance the price of chicken was set after input from the breeders' association and the veterinarians," he said.

A total of 280 Bumiputera businessmen are taking part in this year's Mega Raya Expo, selling Aidilfitri products. – Bernama
