12-yr-old cancer patient seeks urgent treatment

Kota Kinabalu: Cancer patient Elenna Maijo's father, Maijo bin Piok, finds sending Elenna to seek treatment an arduous task due to the difficulty in finding transport from their home to Kota Marudu town because of the bad and difficult road conditions there.Maijo who is from Kg Maggandai, Kota Marudu is unemployed and depends on hunting and growing some vegetables to earn a meagre income to survive. He also has to take care of his three other children.Each time he has to fork out RM50 per trip to bring his daughter to the Likas Hospital for treatment which does not include payment for medical treatment, medicine, surgery and other expenses.ADVERTISEMENT Twelve-year old girl Elenna is suffering from bone cancer and needs to undergo surgery and chemotherapy sessions.The plight of this young girl's predicament was recently highlighted on Facebook and WhatsApp and went viral.On hearing her case, a local Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) Solidarity Youth Sabah (SBS), took the initiative to visit her at the Likas Hospital on July 5 to understand the patient's situation and problems faced by her family.It was learnt that Elenna is suffering from stage four bone cancer and is urgently in need of serious medical attention which include surgery and later chemotherapy. Sabah Youth Solidarity provided some financial assistance to ease the burden of Maijo's family.
