Kota Kinabalu: Mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir welcomed the launching of the Seven Billion Acts of Goodness programme here on Sunday. The international programme, organised by Bhrama Kumaris and Inti College Sabah, was intended to promote good deeds, peace, goodwill and unity. In his speech read out by City Hall Environmental Health Department Director Robert Lipon, Madingkir said there is probably no better time to have a campaign like this in view of what has been happening around the world today.ADVERTISEMENT "It is a timely campaign especially when human beings seem to have lost their own humanity and the whole world is experiencing extreme turmoil and suffering brought on by unnecessary conflicts, civil wars, unrest and natural disasters. "In Sabah, we are not spared as I believe many of us, especially those living in Ranau who are still recovering from the trauma of the unexpected earthquake that caused the loss of 18 lives on June 5," he said.Madingkir added that City Hall has always been engaging and supporting activities that promote unity, peace and harmony among communities in the City as well as refining the image of the City through various means."As such, I encourage all City residents to grow the seed of goodness through their selfless and altruistic service for humanity. "ADVERTISEMENT According to Brahma Kumaris Malaysia Kota Kinabalu Branch President Dr Muralindaran Mariappan, the international programme first started in the US, then India and all over the world."The purpose of the programme is to inspire individuals to perform some acts of goodness to really make them feel that one act of goodness can make a big difference in the lives," he said, adding that the public are encouraged to access www.actsofgoodness.org to find out more about the Seven Billion Acts of Goodness programme.
