Fifth arrest over the 1MDB probe

Putra Jaya: A despatch rider is the fifth individual to be remanded to assist in the investigation into the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) issue. The four-day remand order beginning Sunday on the 27-year-old man was issued by Magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Wan Ab Rahim at the Magistrate's Court here.

According to an official of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) when met at the court, the remand order aimed to assist investigation under Section 16(a) of the MACC Act 2002 for accepting a bribe.

The same court had earlier issued a remand order on four other individuals to assist in the investigation into the 1MDB case. However, two of them had been released on MACC bond.

The despatch rider was apprehended at his home in Bentong, Pahang at 6.30pm on Saturday.

The suspect is believed to have links with the 28-year-old sole proprietor of a trading company who was also remanded for four days beginning Friday.
