Kudat: SMJK Lok Yuk here is a school that reflects the 1Malaysia spirit due to its emphasis on the teaching and learning of Malay, English and Chinese languages, said Minister of Special Tasks Datuk Teo Chee Kang. Teo said such a stand would only bring about positive result since a person who was fluent in Malay, English and the Chinese languages would certainly have an advantage in this competitive society.

Officiating at the opening ceremony of SMJK Lok Yuk new school block here, Teo who is also Tanjong Kapor Assemblyman said the secondary school was also a place for teachers and students of different religious and racial backgrounds to mingle and promote their own cultures.

He believed this would be beneficial for the students as they pursued tertiary education or entered the job market in the future.

"Malaysia is a multicultural and multiracial country. Learning with classmates of different races and religions at school allow students to inculcate mutual understanding, thereby building the foundations of a united and harmonious society."

On the other hand, Teo said the Federal and State Governments have been supporting the development of SMJK Lok Yuk for many years.

He said the State Government would continue to allocate funds for the development of the secondary school and urged the Board of Governors of SMJK Lok Yuk to submit the application for the State Government's grant.

Teo added that he would render his assistance in the school's development including the construction of a four-storey administration building.
