Emily crowned Miss Sabah Earth

Kota Kinabalu: Eighteen-year-old Emily Chung from Inanam was crowned Miss Sabah Earth 2015 on Sunday after she beat 11 other contestants at the Miss Sabah Earth 2015 Grand Final.She took home RM2,500, a trophy, return air tickets to Kuala Lumpur and a sash.Second place went to Felcy Francsie Julian, 18, from Penampang who won the title Miss Sabah Earth – Air for which she took home RM2,000, a trophy, return air tickets to Kuala Lumpur and a sash.ADVERTISEMENT Third place and fourth place went to Sanjeda John, 23, from Kota Kinabalu and Annatasha Shanty Jeremiah, 18, from Penampang who respectively grabbed the title Miss Earth – Water 2015 and Miss Earth – Fire 2015.They took home RM1,500 and RM1,000 cash prize as well as a trophy, return air tickets to Kuala Lumpur and a sash.All four will represent Sabah at the national level Miss Earth 2015 this Aug 9.Chung also grabbed two other subsidiary titles, Most Popular by Audience Choice and Body Beautiful each winning her RM800, RM500 and sashes. ADVERTISEMENT John on the other hand grabbed the Best in Evening Gown subsidiary title winning RM800 and a sash.Most Popular via Online was won by Falynda Sharon Mathew, 20, from Penampang which won her RM500 and sash while Most Photogenic was won by Kristina Yohanis, 19, from Inanam who also won RM500 and a sash.

Additionally, Best in Theme Evening Gown went to Dewina Petrus Guriting, 24, from Tambunan while Most Creative in Eco Wear went to Jennifer Lim, 22, from Kota Marudu and Best in Theme Eco Wear went to Joyce Chong, 19, from Kota Kinabalu. They each received RM800 and a sash.According to its organising chairman, Bryan Victor, the contestants went through three rounds of competition namely the eco wear which they designed themselves, beach wear and evening wear.He also said the semi-finalists of the Sabah Golden Designer Award competition which were also announced that night will compete at the finals in Dec 4.Meanwhile, Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Edward Yong who was the guest of honour said the annual event was a very suitable platform for promoting environmental awareness and education in society.He said society was facing quite a number of environmental challenges such as climate change, conservation issues, resource depletion, environmental degradation, environmental health, waste management and many others.He also hoped to see the see the finalists gaining more awareness, knowledge and insights on the importance of the environment and to continuously protect and preserve it."We need more youngsters and youths to be active in promoting and advocating environmental awareness and increase participation in environmental programmes such as in applying the 3R concept of Reuse, Reduce and Recycle in managing our waste and also in inculcating green habits in our daily lives such as conserving and saving water and energy in our daily routine."It is my hope that at the end of this pageant, the finalist will become our 'Eco Ambassadress' and role model to further promote more environmental causes to their family members, relatives and friends and to influence change in behaviour, mind set and habits."Yong added that the government always welcomed and promoted more community participation and cooperation in its community-based programmes, as these programmes are for the benefit of the community and the environment.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
