Zainie: Sabah Archery Association will continue producing quality archers

Kota Kinabalu: Coaches are advised to acquire as much knowledge as possible in order to produce quality second line archers and by default making Sabah one of the powerhouse for archery in the country.Sabah Archery Association President, Datuk Zainie Abdul Aucasa said this in his opening speech during the officiating of the association's coaching seminar held on July 25 and 26 at the State Sports Institute in Likas Sports Complex.He stated that the seminar is part of the association's programme in preparation for Sukma Sarawak next year while expressing that the association will continue producing archers of quality for the State and its backup teams.ADVERTISEMENT A total of 16 coaches consisting of school teachers and archery association members from Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, Keningau, Pitas, Sipitang, Lahad Datu, Papar and Kudat participated in the two-day seminar where they were briefed on archery updates, knowledge and techniques.Meanwhile, the association is planning to visit and conduct archery clinics in several districts with the assistance and support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Sabah Sports Council later in the year.While they will also be opening more training centres which to be located in Ranau, Kota Belud, Kudat, Tawau, Sandakan and Lahad Datu over a period of two years. Presently, there are three training centres available in the State namely, Kota Kinabalu, Papar and Keningau which have produced archers representing Sabah at national and international level. ADVERTISEMENT Sabah Archery Association correspondingly takes pride in the fact that at the recent SEA Games, two Sabah archers namely Fatin Nurfatehah Mat Salleh and Lee Kin Lip contributed four out of the total five gold medals won by the national archery squad in Singapore.
