Kota Kinabalu: Opposition head in Sabah, Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin, described the new Federal Cabinet appointments on Tuesday as "attempts to curry favour" with the Prime Minister. He said the reshuffle reflected appointment of politicians and leaders who are in the good books of Najib and who often issued commendable praises of him and his leadership as well as defending his national policies. "The way I see it…There are no surprises in the reshuffle and there are no new faces that would be in the team to govern the country.

"We already know them…I mean their records and involvement in politics as well as past challenges they faced.

"For instance, few were investigated for suspected graft and one even lost as a Menteri Besar. Hence, I believe that new line-up will not able to uphold the power and strengthen the position of Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) in the country," he said. Lajim who is also Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sabah Chairman also did not expect the new line-up would have direct impact on PKR's struggle in Sabah.

"Instead, it has given us huge encouragement to continue fighting for the people's rights in the State," he said.

On appointment of Sabah Umno Deputy Liaison Chief Datuk Seri Salleh Tun Said, the Klias assemblyman said he only questioned the hidden agenda of Najib in appointing Salleh as a full minister as the latter was not even a Member of Parliament (MP).

He said there are other longer serving Umno and BN MPs in Sabah whom Najib can consider to appoint such as Datuk Bung Moktar Radin, Datuk Abdul Ghapur Salleh, Datuk Marcus Mojigoh and Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri, among others.

"Salleh's appointment may be a reward for his solid support and continued backing of Najib in issuing pro-Najib statements in his blog and print media.

Lajim said Salleh's appointment may also be to achieve power balancing of influential top leaders in Sabah.
