8,000 to run for peace in September
Kota Kinabalu: More than 8,000 peace lovers are expected to gather at five separate locations in Sabah to "Run For Peace" in September, this year.Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM) Sabah branch Chairman, Lam Choi Sing, said the "Run For Peace 2015" is non- competitive event organised by Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM) to create a culture of peace in the community.

He said this during a courtesy call on Mayor Datuk Madingkir at the City Hall to invite him to grace the event in Kota Kinabalu on September 6.

Thanking the SGM for the invitation, Madingkir commended the organiser for coming up with another meaningful activity for the city.

According to Lam, the event aims to encourage youth and people from all walks of life to come together for peace whilst promoting personal and community health and to lead an active lifestyle.

He added that some 90,000 peace lovers are also expected to gather at 19 different locations nationwide for 'Run For Peace'.

For Sabah, the event will take place in Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan on September 6 while for Tawau, Keningau and Lahad Datu on September 20.

The event is a biennial community event which started in 2005 in Klang with 1,000 participants, while a total of 57,000 participants took part in the "Run For Peace 2013", involving 14 separate locations nationwide.

He also said that SGM has designated September as the "Month of Peace" to raise awareness on peace in the society.

Lam added that the organiser hoped that the event will inspire people to create a culture of peace in the community.

Besides the run, he said there will be fun and educative programmes such as peace exhibitions on anti-nuclear weapons entitled "Everything You Treasure", exhibition on sustainable development as well as cultural performances. Also present were Ruth Lim, SGM Women Division Chief, Advan Lee, the Organising Chairman and Vice Chairman of SGM Sabah, as well as other working committee members.
