Labuan Duathlon entries already exceeds last year's number

Kota Kinabalu: The main organiser of the 2nd Labuan Duathlon Challenge, Labuan Corporation is calling all active lifestyle enthusiasts to register before the closing date which is on the August 8. Event Coordinator, Steve J. Mositun said that although the closing date is weeks away yet the number of registered participants have exceeded last year's number."As of today (Wednesday), we have received a total of 210 entries which is already more than the 190 participants registered last year," he said when contacted yesterday.

He was delighted to see a lot of last year's participants which consist of experienced, professional and even novice athletes coming back to Labuan for the second edition."A lot of competitors from 2014 have confirmed their participation which is a positive sight for Labuan Corporation as well as Sabah/Labuan Extreme Sports Fan Club, who will be the race coordinator for the second time," he added.The main organiser has introduced a new category for this year's event which is the Open Team relay. "It is actually an all-men affair category but we have come into consideration for several athletes' requests where they wish to experience and join in the category.

"Therefore, we decided to open it to all women, mix men/women teams to join in should they be aware that only the top ten finishers are offered prizes for this category," said Steve.Other categories open for the event are Group A (Men Open aged 18 to 39), Group B (Women Open aged 18 and above), Group C (Men Junior Veteran aged 40 to 49) and Group D (Men Veterans aged 50 and above).

Underage participants (18 and below) are urge to have their parents or guardians to directly contact the organiser for their release forms.Registrations for the singles and team categories are charged at RM120 and RM200 respectively with the dateline on August 8.All categories will give away identical cash prizes of RM2,000 to the winner, RM1,500 for second place and RM1,000 for third while the remaining top ten places will also receive cash prizes each.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
