Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) here rescued five foreign tourists and two boat crew when the diving boat they were in encountered engine trouble while en route to Mantanani Island off Kota Belud on Saturday.Kota Kinabalu maritime enforcement chief Maritime Captain Zin Azman Md Yunus said the rescue was carried out at 5.05pm, following a distress call from the boat handlers, more than four hours earlier.

"The choppy seas with waves measuring between three and five metres high hampered the MMEA and the Sabah Sea Surveillance System staff to determine the position of the boat which was about 4.9 nautical miles from Kuala Abai," he said in a statement here Sunday.

He said the tourists and boat crew, aged between 20 and 40, were moved to the lifeboats while the diving boat was towed to the Manana Borneo Resort in Kampung Pituru Laut, Kuala Abai in Kota Belud.
