Kuala Lumpur: The Junior Chamber International (JCI), a non-profit organisation, has urged the young generation to be part of the group and together with it empower themselves to a create positive change."At JCI, we provide opportunities to our members in four areas – individual, international, community and business opportunities.

"For individual, there will be seminars organised by professional trainers to help members speak effectively, acquire leadership skills, improve their communication abilities and enhance their personal development," JCI President (Petaling Jaya), Adnan Lee Chang Fatt Abdullah, told Bernama.

He said this on the sidelines of the announcement of JCI's Creative Young Entrepreneur Award (CYEA) 2015 yesterday, organised by JCI Petaling Jaya.

Adnan is a Managing Director of MBG Fruitshop, which sell fresh fruits. It has 18 outlets nationwide and two in China.

Lee was last year's CYEA winner.

He said the CYEA aimed to foster entrepreneurial spirit among youths and encourage creativity and innovation.

The award is open to any entrepreneur or executive between aged 18 and 40 who owned, managed and was responsible for a recent, or start-up performance of a privately-held business.

Adnan said there were over 50 chapters (branches) of JCI nationwide and all of these chapters were actively organising programmes to help their members improve.

According to him, JCI Petaling Jaya has collaborated with University of Malaya's medical centre (Leukaemia Trust Fund) to help its patients.

"This year, we had organised a Zumba dance and yoga at Dataran Merdeka, with 600 participants, contributing approximately RM30,000," he said, adding that the money could help at least one patient at the medical centre.

JCI Petaling Jaya will organise more than 50 programmes this year.

He also urged the youths to improve themselves for the sake of the family, community, and the country and not to wait for assistance to do something.

CYEA was introduced in 2007.

Director of SME Bank and Chief Operating Officer of Centre For Entrepreneur Development and Research (CEDAR), Dr Sheikh Ghazali Abod, officiated the event.

Ghazali said CEDAR will offer prizes worth RM15,000 to this year's winner, including providing training and coaching the winner.

CEDAR, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the SME Bank, is a training, consultancy and research Centre aimed at building capacity and capability of both the small and medium enterprises and development financial institutions' employees. – Bernama
