State entrepreneurs get APEA award

Kota Kinabalu: Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce Sabah Vice President Datuk Frankie Liew (pic) and two other entrepreneurs from Sabah were chosen to receive the Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Awards 2015 (APEA) which took place at Miri Marriott Resort & Spa, Sarawak. The two entrepreneurs from Sabah are the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Petrohub Corporation Sdn Bhd, Datuk Junaidi Datuk Abdul Rahman in the "Outstanding" category and the CEO of Teras Eramaju Sdn.Bhd, Wan Nurmuhammad Wan Mustafa in the "Most Promising" category.

Liew was one of the 16 entrepreneurs and businessmen from BIMP-EAGA to be bestowed with the award.

Liew, who is also the President of the PutatanChinese Chamber of Commerce and ManagingDirector of Tukim Enterprise Sdn Bhd received the award for "Most Promising" category which waspresented by the Assistant Minister of Industrial Development, (Industrial Estate Development) and Assistant Minister of Community Service, Sarawak, Datuk Peter Nansian anak Ngusie.

Also present were the Chairman of BIMP-EAGA Business Council, Datuk Roselan Johar Mohamed and President of Enterprise Asia, Datuk William Ng.

APEA is a prestigious award programme for entrepreneurs and businessmen who have contributed in the development of business and industry in their respective countries.

The award is organised by a Non-Government Organisation (NGO) Asia Enterprise that focuses on promoting entrepreneurs in Asia Pacific region.

Four recipients from Labuan in the "Outstanding" category included the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Asian Supply Base Sdn Bhd, Datuk Harris Annuar Tan, General Manager and Founder of Leyden Engineering Service, Anthony Ho Yen Teng, CEO of Preston Shipyard Sdn Bhd, Zailani Mansor and Founder and Director of TOS Logistics & Shipping Sdn Bhd, William Yong Siew Hung in the 'Most Promising category.

Other APEA recipients were Founder and Managing Director of LCY Development Sdn Bhd, Francis Lau, President of Oceancara Corporation Sdn Bhd, Datuk Balang Rining (Nelson), President of Aziza Paradise Hotel, Benedict Rocho Dy Tecklo, Director of Eustolia Marketing Services Sdn.Bhd (EMS), Lhai D.Santiago, Founder and Group managing Director of Utusan Kumpulan HMN Nadhir Sdn.Bhd, Awang Habiburllah Awang Ismail, Managing Director of Hydro-Icon Sdn.Bhd, Bobby Ting Sie Ching, Managing Director of Misarma Enterprise Sdn.Bhd, Tang Siong Chung, General Manager of Rajang Port Authority, Helen Lim and Founder and CEO of Tenaga Seri Wangsa Sdn.Bhd, Hong Boon Swee.

Liew told reporters that the award was very meaningful for him because after fluctuations in his business endeavours as a result of the economic crisis that hit the country earlier, he managed to survive and come up again.

"The success and this award is not for me individually, but a result of the efforts, commitment and dedication of the entire staff of the company, who stayed with me despite the economic downturn," he said.

Liew also advised young people who venture into business to start from scratch and on a small scale, as well as to be honest, sincere, resilient and earnest in their endeavours.
