Tangau sworn in as Minister

Kuala Lumpur: Datuk Wilfred Madius Tangau on Tuesday took his oath of office as the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation before Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah at Istana Negara here. The swearing-in took place at the Bilik Singgahsana Kecil (Small Throne Room) of the palace at noon.ADVERTISEMENT Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and several other Cabinet Ministers were present at the function.Nogeh anak Gumbek also took his oath of office as a Deputy Minister. Nogeh said he was expected to be informed of his portfolio today (Wednesday).Madius and Nogeh signed the instrument of oath and secrecy before Chief Justice Tun Arifin Zakaria and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa.Madius said after the event that he was thankful to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for his confidence in him. ADVERTISEMENT He pledged to give undivided support to Najib's leadership and implement the government agenda. Nogeh also thanked the Prime Minister for having appointed him as a Deputy Minister.

"I will do my best in any ministry that I am emplaced," he said.Meanwhile, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Mosti) will transform its delivery system to encourage the people to participate in the field of Science, Technology and Innovation.Madius said the aim was to engage people from the grassroots to be directly involved in producing innovative products for commercial use."Currently science, technology and innovation (STI) initiatives are carried out by higher learning institutions or research institutions," he said.Madius said the involvement and participation of the people was important for the development of STI in the future, in line with the aspiration of the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP) which is aimed at boosting the economy of the people.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

"With the mandate given to me, I will focus on projects under the 11MP to promote projects based on the concept of 'business as usual' to 'game changer' so as to improve the country's status in STI," he said.He also urged all the relevant authorities to continue working with him to fulfil the country's aspiration of becoming a scientifically advanced nation by 2020.
