Builder to include railway mini museum
Kota Kinabalu: A mini museum or galleria will be integrated into the Aeropod project to commemorate the current Tanjung Aru railway station, which has been in existence since the North Borneo Era."The original design and concept for the Sabah State Railways Department (JKNS) station and headquarters include the provision of the mini museum or galleria. Currently, coordination meetings with JKNS to make this a reality are still ongoing," said Aeropod Deputy General Manager Chan Tah Seong.

The first phase of the RM3 billion mixed development project by SP Setia, which includes the preparation of the infrastructures as well as the construction of the JKNS headquarters at the present station, is nearing completion, Chan said.

He said the first stage of developing the new railway station was done with the new workshop and a block of staff quarters in Kinarut.

"The workshop is currently operational and the railway staff will be moving to their new quarters in the next few weeks upon issuance of OC (Occupational Certificate)," Chan said.

The second stage is the completion of the new railway station and the headquarters for JKNS and the commissioning of a revised railway alignment to suit the new railway station location.

Currently, the railway station and JKNS headquarters are still under construction and are on target to be completed in October this year as planned, he added.

The Aeropod project is currently focusing on two important aspects. The first is the delivery of its first commercial development comprising three blocks of eight-storey retail offices, two SOVO towers with four levels of retail and an entertainment and dining pod.

The second part is the completion of new infrastructure and amenities to support the building of the new JKNS railway station and headquarters.

Chan said two blocks of retail offices shall be completed by year end as planned together with corresponding road network and infrastructure in place.

More launches are planned over the next two years once the new railway station is operational and the site of the existing railway station is readied for subsequent phase developments.

SP Setia is the developer of the five-phase Aeropod project.
