Kota Kinabalu: The State is firm in not allowing Bangladeshi workers for any sector in Sabah, State Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Datuk Siringan Gubat, said.He said the Ministry reached this decision after a meeting on Wednesday. Employers can source workers from Indonesia, Philippines, Myanmar, Nepal and Cambodia for all sectors, except for the service sector which is limited to Indonesians and Philippines. The stand taken by the State Government through the Ministry was made in response to the Federal Government's move to bring in 1.5 million workers from Bangladesh in stages over three years to meet the demands of various sectors.ADVERTISEMENT There have been widespread condemnation for the move, including in Sarawak and peninsula as well. Sabah Barisan Nasional components have been among the harshest critics, citing the already large transient population in the State that is blamed for many of the criminal activities.Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had said the Bangladeshi workers would be involved in various fields, especially the plantation sector, and meet the demands of the job market in the peninsula, Sabah and Sarawak. However, illegal Bangladeshi immigrants found working here are not involved and would be deported.ADVERTISEMENT Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
