Kota Kinabalu: Sabahans led by new kid on the block Brandon Lau ruled the scoreboard on the first day of the Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Tour's RM180,000 PGM Orna Closed Championship held at the Orna Golf & Country Club, Melaka on Wednesday. The American-based 22-year-old from Kota Kinabalu who only turned pro after winning the 10th leg of the PGM's Development Circuit – Qualifying School at Glenmarie Golf & Country Club last week made his debut in the tour with a stunning six-under 66 to lead by a stroke from fellow Sabahan Lam Yu Shuen.Despite the strong field, the confident looking Lau who put in six birdies in his final six holes said he felt much more comfortable than he did in the Tour's feeder circuit event last week.

"It was an uneven round for me. I was two-under over my first nine holes and then had two bogeys before the six birdies."I made a few good putts and hit the ball solidly today and so overall I'm happy with my performance."
National top pro Nicholas Fung also finished his round well in joint third place with Akhmal Tarmizee and Wilson Choo with 68.
