Osca Rugby Club holds charity drive

Kota Kinabalu: Osca Rugby Club had their first charity drive successfully held at the Yayasan Kebajikan Suria in Kg. Panjut, Tuaran on August 21.Club President Nelson Angang in a press conference on Wednesday said the trip was led by his deputy Michael Liangson and apart from giving away daily needs, a clinic on rugby was also held for the children from the foundation.

"The average age of the children staying there are from 10 to 17-year-old and there are 50 of them with 10 staff.

"The handout given to Yayasan Kebajikan Suria were daily needs as well as stationery and a rugby ball was given as symbol of goodwill from the club."

He said the clinic session conducted by junior members of the club was to teach the children some basic knowledge in rugby such as passing, handling, running and also team building effort.

"The children really enjoyed the session and a few legends of the club also showed the children some tricks in playing touch rugby.

"The session ended with the children separated into two groups and having their own touch rugby game.

"Our first outing was great and thanks to our Project Manager Melvin Tan and also to other members of the team Gerard De Souza, Leo Komuji, Danny Lojitan, Mervyn Tham as well as the juniors Joseph and Jonathan De Souza, Charles Billy and Carl Delon Hubert"

Nelson said the club which is officially registered with the Sabah Sports Commissioner office are happy to carry out their social responsibilities.

"Our programme is to visit several orphanages in Sabah and also throughout the country to help these children on their needs with the help from members, individuals, NGO's, Private Companies and rugby enthusiast.

"Our next trip is to Don Bosco Homes in Bundu Tuhan, Ranau on September 5, and we have already identified a few other orphanages in the coming months and programmes have been drawn up to give motivation talks, clinics as well as giving handout."
