Panel to help SMEs face RM slide

Kota Baru: The Special Economic Committee is expected to come up with measures especially to help the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) face the economic challenge like the fall in the value of the ringgit.Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, said the SMEs could still survive now despite the effects on their operations following the fall in the ringgit's value."We know that the issue of Goods and Services Tax has affected their sales and so is the fall in the ringgit's value," he said.ADVERTISEMENT Mustapa said this to reporters after officiating the Merdeka Trade Expo here today.The expo is organised by Universiti Malaysia Kelantan and is held at Kompleks Perniagaan Saidina Ali, Kok Lanas. "The government, via agencies like Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia, Majlis Amanah Rakyat and the National Entrepreneur Group Economic Fund will continue with its efforts to help SMEs to face the current challenges," he said.ADVERTISEMENT Earlier, in his speech, Mustapa, who is also UKM Mentor Minister, encouraged the university's graduates to pursue sectors which offered vast potentials ahead. – Bernama
