Ismail to actively pursue Malay 'Low Yat' model
Papar: Federal Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri plans to extend his idea of creating a centre selling IT gadgets and the likes as a national programme nationwide, including Kota Kinabalu. He said he would also adopt the concept of "Low Yat Plaza" as the best model and example to follow when establishing the centre at Medan Mara in Kuala Lumpur to help Malay entrepreneurs venturing in such business.

"Several states have applied for such centre to be set up like Selangor that has provided a mall to be made as a hub selling gadgets like handphones, its accessories, computers, tablets and laptops, among others.

"Even the Umno Kedah Youth has submitted a memorandum to Kedah Menteri Besar for such centre to also be created in the there.

"Following this positive development, I plan to make this a national programme so that it could also be set up in Sabah as well," he said.

Ismail said this in a press conference after opening the 24th delegation meeting of Umno Papar, here.

He said he has no intention of using the name 'Low Yat 2' for the centre to be opened at Medan Mara in three months' time but will follow the concept of Low Yat Plaza.

Ismail Sabri, who is also an Umno Supreme Council member, reiterated his stand to defend the Malays and Bumiputeras.

He said his stance was based on the sense of responsibility as an Umno leader without sidelining and marginalising other races.

"As an Umno leader, I have no fear to fight and defend the Malays and Bumiputeras as long as don't oppress other races and as such I should not be labelled racist leader," he said. He said political parties in the country are mainly racial-based whereby Umno defends the Malays and Bumiputeras while MCA for the Chinese and MIC for the Indians.

He also cited Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) which defends the rights and interests of the Kadazandusun and Murut community, which is not wrong.

"If I created a centre for selling electronic items for Malay traders and order races selling similar items to close shops…then that would be wrong," he said.
