44 Sabah bird's nest operators get certs
Papar: Bird nest operators are urged to join the Sabah Swiflet House and Bird's Nest Industry (SWIFIN) to further strengthen the industry in Sabah.SWIFIN President, Datuk Karim Bujang said, the advantage of participating under the organisation is that they will speak on their (operators) behalf about any proposals to the government in order for the industry to develop.

"It is time, all operators of bird's nest must combine together under SWIFIN so that our 'voice' are stronger during voicing out any suggestions or insights.

"This is because the proactive role of operators are needed to ensure the potential and quality of bird's nest products from Sabah recognized, and can be extended to international level.

"By joining SWIFIN, I am sure we are capable of realising this effort," he said at the Certificate Presentation Ceremony of the Malaysian Good Agricultural Practices (MyGAP) Beaufort Region at the District Office, here.

Also present were District Officer, Siriman Basir, Deputy Director of Veterinary Services, Dr. Nasib Eli, Veterinary Unit Officer, Dr. Samuel Mopon and Assistant Director of the Beaufort Department of Veterinary Services, Dr. Daud Yusuf.

Meanwhile, Karim requested the Government to continue to support the bird's nest industry in Sabah by distributing special allocations to further strengthen these areas.

He said the potential of the industry is very encouraging to be developed and even able to provide lucrative profit to operators involved in the venture.

"I understand the value of this industry in Malaysia is estimated to reach billion Ringgits as global demand for these products is very high, especially involving China market.

"That way, we can help the poor through their involvement in the field that will strengthen the socio-economic community in this State," he said.

Earlier, a total of 44 bird nest operators from Papar, Beaufort, Kuala Penyu and Sipitang received the MyGAP certificate at the ceremony organised by the Department of Veterinary Services and Animal Industry of Sabah.
