KK take all titles at stake in tennis meet

Kota Kinabalu: Kota Kinabalu Lawn Tennis Association (KKLTA) won all the titles at stake on their way to winning the Sabah Chief Minister Overall Champion Challenge Trophy in the 29th edition of the Sabah State Tennis Inter-affiliates Tournament at Likas Sports Complex tennis court, Monday.It was for the first time that a total of nine affiliates took part where host KK gathered all their players to play in the yearly tournament.Up for grab were the Chief Minister's Challenge Trophy for Overall Team Champion, Youth and Sports Minister's Challenge Trophy (Men's Team Champion), Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister's Challenge Trophy (Ladies' Team Champion), Ajit Mannan's Challenge Trophy (Junior's Team Champion), and Sabah Tennis President's Challenge Trophy for the Veteran's Team Champion.

The runner-up was Sandakan, who also came second in the Veteran's and Men's categories.Labuan came strong as second place winner in the junior category.Keningau sprang a surprise by grabbing the runner-up spot in the ladies category where the team had the services of some import players. Kudat came third in the men's, while Tawau had to be contented with a third placing in the veteran's.

In the men's category Sandakan gave KK a strong fight but just could not do much to create an upset.The ladies category saw KK reign supreme which have the services of ex-Korean national player Mary Kim.

Sabah Tennis Association President, Johnson Koh urged the affiliates to make it a point to participate in the yearly event. "This is the only event where all players from all categories and sectors participate in a carnival-like atmosphere."It was also a way to formalise 'lost' relationship among district tennis players and also an opportunity to make new friends, foster and enhance friendship and above all, to embrace the 1Malaysia concept.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

"Tennis, like any other sports is creed, religion and colour blind. Sabah tennis practices this concept," he said, adding that the sport also keeps one fit besides keeping away kids from undesirable elements and distractions.Koh also stressed to all affiliate officials to aggressively promote junior tennis and to organise more tennis tournaments to keep the high interest of the sports.
