Kota Kinabalu: A first medical evacuation exercise by the Fire and Rescue Department saw a five-month-old baby successfully airlifted from Tawau Hospital to Likas Hospital using an MI 171 helicopter on Tuesday. The helicopter used in the exercise was the same one used during Kinabalu quake operations in June. The baby was having respiratory problem at its diaphragm, a respiratory muscle separating the lungs and the abdomen. A large opening on the diaphragm caused the intestine to get into the lungs area, affecting the baby's respiratory function and digestive system. A surgery is needed to correct the problem and to return the baby's respiratory and digestive function to normal.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
