Kota Kinabalu: Sabahans want the true spirit of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 to be restored as it promises equal partnership of independent nations in the Federation as we celebrate the Merdeka Day.We want our rights and freedom returned to us to enable Malaysia to progress as a true blessed rainbow nation, said Perpaduan Anak Negeri (PAN) Sabah Chair Pastor Esther Golingi in a statement."Today, we are a far cry from what we have aimed to be. We have digressed from the intentions of our forefathers in forming the Federation," lamented Golingi.ADVERTISEMENT Today, we are dismayed over the state of affairs of this nation. There is a growing distrust of investors and of our own people with the current leadership of our government, she said. After 52 years of gaining independence and forming Malaysia we still travel on gravel roads, have no electricity and no access to clean water, she said. Our people are feeling the pinch of the rising costs of goods and are struggling to make ends meet. The continuing devaluation of our currency has made matters worse, she added. There is a continuing proliferation of oppressive laws that violates our fundamental civil liberties, especially our freedom of religion and we reject any kind of imposition of restrictions on the importation of our Christian materials, stressed Golingi.ADVERTISEMENT "We continue to speak against aggressive Islamisation efforts by extremist elements from West Malaysia. We stress that we are not against conversions out of free will but denounce conversions through deception, bribery and force on Sabahans."We denounce the relentless efforts of falsifying information on religion of our people in their MyKads to boost statistical figures.

"We reject concerted efforts to boost Muslim immigration and the engineering of our population. We know of your activities in our land especially targeted at the poor and in the interior. Leave our people alone," stated Golingi.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

We will continue to voice our concerns on the lack of political will to ensure enforcement of our security borders to counter the problem of illegal immigration, kidnappings and threats of terrorism on our shores, she said.As regards to education, we claim for fair and equal distribution of public university seats and scholarships to our students. We find that our students are often sidelined and do not enjoy the same benefits as promised to others under Article 153 of the Federal Constitution, she said.
